Rock Carpet: Cost

Calculating the cost of rock carpet involves multiple factors and is much more in depth than that of regular carpet, tile, laminate, or hardwood flooring. Factors that providers take into consideration when determining prices include but are not limited to:

A) Base Type: Common river rock, granite, marble, stone etc.

B) Type and Size of the Rock: The type and size of your rock choice is probably the largest factor. If it's a foreign rock that has to be imported that will obviously increase the cost along with whether or not the rocks are already crushed or still in large pieces.

C) Quantity: The amount you purchase, which is usually calculated by the square foot. If you buy many square feet you may be able to get a lower price per square foot whereas if you only buy enough to cover a small area you may pay full price.

D) Where the materials come from Domestic or Imported: If you are looking for an exotic rock type that is found primarily in another country or has to be special ordered you can expect a price increase.

E) Demand or Availability of that particular rock

F) When and Where you purchase from: Depending on when and where you purchase from, sometimes the more you buy the cheaper it becomes per square foot. Discounts vary greatly from provider to provider. You can save money on your total cost if you have the means to safely transport some of the materials yourself and then have the professionals install it. Some providers may or may not allow you to transport your own materials.

Typically, you could expect to pay about 3 to 4 times that of any regular carpet, tile, laminate, or hardwood depending on the above mentioned factors. You could expect to pay about $8 to possibly $10 per square foot.
